History of coin subject "$20 Saint Gaudens": President Teddy Roosevelt called for coins whose beauty rivaled those of Ancient Greece and Rome. Accordingly, President Roosevelt turned to his friend and America's foremost sculptor, Augustus-Saint-Gaudens, to design new $20 and $10 gold coins.
The obverse depicts Liberty holding a staff and olive branch as she walks from the sun. The date appears to the viewer's right of Liberty (the date appeared in Roman numerals "MCMVII" on a portion of the coins minted in 1907). The word 'LIBERTY' arcs above her. Stars representing the number of states in the union (46 from 1907-11 and 48 from 1912-33) curve around the rim.
The reverse of the $20 Saint Gaudens gold coin features a bald eagle gliding across the sun. The words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "TWENTY DOLLARS" span across the top of the coin. Although, it did not appear on the coin in 1907 or the first half of 1908, the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" lies underneath the eagle.

History of coin subject "$5 Gold Half Liberty": The US five dollar gold (half eagle) coin was one of the first American gold coins ever produced. The Liberty Half Eagle is the only coin of any type or denomination to be struck at all seven mints. They were struck in two types--the ultra-scarce "No Motto," minted from 1839 until 1865 and the "With Motto" (IN GOD WE TRUST) type, struck from 1866 until 1908. Like many other U.S. coins, the Liberty Half Eagle depicts the crowned image of Liberty on the obverse and, on the reverse, a majestic bald eagle with a shield over its breast, perched on an olive branch and holding three arrows.
In 1908, President Roosevelt asked sculptor Bela Lyon Pratt to create new designs for US coins, including the $5 gold coin. He created what's known as the Indian Head, featuring the bust of an Indian chief on one side and an eagle with closed wings on the other. This design lasted until production of half eagle gold coins stopped in 1929.
